finally, a free moment!
Mar. 10th, 2004 12:09 pmRight now the only time I can get online is at work, where I'm busy busy, so I haven't had a chance to update. Today, though, I'm eating lunch at my desk instead of in the canteen, so I have about 2 free moments :)
Today I move out of my posh hotel into a flat, which I'm sure will be a disappointment after the luxury of the Old Bank Hotel. 3 words for you - Heated. Towel. Racks. *sigh*
I have yet to figure out what the fuss is about British food... I haven't had a bad meal yet, and even the food at the canteen is damn good. Plus, it only costs me about 3£, which is good, 'cause my per diem works out to about 17£. Love the exchange rate. >.<
Work slogs along. The Oxford office is crowded, and there's a constant hum of talk in the background. Every group is represented all on one floor - the same groups that take up 3 HUGE floors at home. Fortunately, I have my sexy iPod with me for entertainment, and I'm currently listening to all 1977 of the songs on it in random order. Much thanks to B for the adapter.
I seem to have fallen quite easily into the "Senior" Programmer role, but I'm very lucky in that the programmer I'm working with here is very intelligent and quick to pick up on things. The only things I've needed to help out with are things that weren't covered well or in great detail in the Cinci office. I don't know how I've managed to not be a bumbling idiot or unintentionally misleading, but I seem to be doing ok.
I miss home very much, but I'm starting to adapt a little bit. I'm not one for taking off at a moment's notice, I never have been... I like having my little comforts around me. The big stressful thing I have left is adapting to the flat and the bus route from there, and then that's it! Just like being at home ;) except of course, I miss my boy and my cat very much. They say home is where the heart is, and I never thought I'd say this, but my home is in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cheers!

Date: 2004-03-10 06:57 am (UTC)What Kind?!? We just stared at the vender blankly, like their is a choice? He pointed to the board and we said the first one. That was amazing, I so wanted to try them all; but ran out of time.
So, find out if they would like to hire Guy.
Make sure you find out where the giant Comic book store is down town. And if you want to hang out with snyone. I can give you names and phone numbers of friends in London.

Date: 2004-03-10 12:50 pm (UTC)Try Kinder Eggs if you can find them (should be easy) at a convenience store. Chocolate eggs with toys inside.
Ooooooooo! Go to MOMI, Museum of the Moving Image. TV and Film museum, with a small but cool Dr. Who exhibit. *Grin*
